Construction Update: 450 11th Avenue

Facade installation is nearing completion at Marx Development Group’s 51-story Aloft Hotel adjacent to Hudson Yards. Designed by DSM Design Group, the 642-foot tall tower is clad in a glass curtain wall from Custom Metalcrafters that is divided into alternately angled 2-story sections. When completed, the project will offer 379 guest rooms, a restaurant and bar, ballroom, and business center.

Construction Update: PENN 2

Northeast corner of PENN2 in the fall of 2020, prior to the reclad.

Facade installation is ongoing at commercial tower PENN 2 at Two Penn Plaza in Midtown by developer Vornado Realty Trust. The 1968 tower is undergoing an extensive renovation by MdeAS Architects that includes a recladding of the exterior with an updated curtain wall. Along with floor-to-ceiling glass, the new facade will feature corner loggias at the northwest and southwest corners, an extended base towards 7th Avenue, and a triple height lobby. Other amenities for the tower will include a 280-person town hall, casual lounges, rooftop pavilion, outdoor green space, and over an acre of outdoor terraces.

Construction Update: The Spiral - 66 Hudson Boulevard

Southwest corner from West 34th Street.

Facade installation is nearing completion at Tishman Speyer’s The Spiral, a 65-story office building at Hudson Yards in New York. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the tower massing features a stepped, continuous green pathway that spirals upward from ground floor entry to the top of the tower. The eroding spiral element affords outdoor terrace space at every floor of the tower.

Construction Update: 555 West 38th Street

Superstructure has topped out at Rockrose Development’s residential tower 555 West 38th Street at Hudson Yards. Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli, the 52-story tower features a mid rise base and a taller tower element at the site’s southern half. The facade consists of a blue glass curtain wall with vertical and horizontal cap accents forming a multi-story grid at the base and northern half of the tower.

Construction Update: Manhattan West

Superstructure is rising at Two Manhattan West, the second new office tower at Brookfield Properties' Manhattan West. The tower is part of the six building mixed use mega-development adjacent to the new Hudson Yards neighborhood. Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) led the design of the 58-story tower, which features a tapered massing with a glass curtain wall facade. One Manhattan West, an adjacent 67-story office tower of similar design opened last year at the northeast corner of the site.

One Manhattan West, the first of two new office towers at Brookfield Properties' Manhattan West, has officially opened. The tower is part of the six building mixed use mega-development adjacent to the new Hudson Yards neighborhood. Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) led the design of the 67-story tower, which features a tapered massing with a glass curtain wall facade. An adjacent second tower of similar design will rise at the southeastern corner of the site.

Construction Tour: 15 Hudson Yards and The Shed

Northwest corner of 15 Hudson Yards.

Superstructure has topped out at 15 Hudson Yards, the 900-foot-tall residential tower at Related Companies and Oxford Development Group's Hudson Yards mega development on the Far West Side. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Rockwell Group, the 88-story tower will offer both condo and rental units. Sales for the 285 one- to four-bedroom condo units are underway and have already surpassed 50 percent sold.

The tower will offer 40,000-square-feet of amenities spread across multiple floors. A fitness center, spa, and 75-foot pool occupy the 50th floor. On the 51st floor residents will have access to a club room, two corner private dining suites, screening and performance room, wine storage and tasting room, business center, and work spaces. At the top floor, residents will enjoy panoramic views from additional amenity spaces for relaxing and dining.

Construction is wrapping up at Extell's 555Ten, a 650-foot residential rental tower in the Hudson Yards Special District. Designed by SLCE, the 56-story rectangular tower sits at the northern edge of the Hudson Yards neighborhood and is clad in a blue glass curtain wall.

Field Update: 500 West 30th Street - Abington House

The exterior envelope of brick precast panels is approximately two thirds installed at Robert Stern's residential condo adjacent to the Hudson Yards megaproject and the High Line.  Following a recent trend in residential projects in New York, the tower's exterior design draws inspiration from the city's industrial past with its brick and black metal framed windows with divided lights.  When the Hudson Yards district is fully developed this project will provide a much needed material contrast to the dominant glass towers from KPF, David Childs and DS+R across the street.
