Facade installation is nearing completion at Extell and Tennor Holding B.V.’s 69-story residential condo tower on the Upper West Side. Designed by Snohetta, the tower features a 15-story podium clad in a curtain wall with a grid of two-story glass openings. A shared amenity terrace will be located on the 16th floor and marks the transition to a slender tower above that is clad with a more predominantly glass curtain wall panel with a thin bronze grid.

Construction is ongoing at the penthouse additions atop CIM Group’s The Astor, a three-tower development on the Upper West Side that were completed between 1901 and 1915 for William Waldorf Astor. A new penthouse structure is being built atop each of the three towers, with interiors by Pembrooke & Ives and private outdoor space.

1 West 60th Street - Anagram Columbus Circle

Southeast corner of the tower from Columbus Circle.

Facade installation is wrapping up at Global Holdings’ Anagram Columbus Circle, a 123-unit residential rental tower in Midtown. Designed by INC Architecture, the tower is clad in bands of hand-laid brick and 7-foot-tall glass with metal spandrel panels. The form of the tower features rounded corners at the Central Park facing northeast and southeast corners.

Residents will have access to 13,000-square-feet of indoor and outdoor amenities on three levels. An indoor and outdoor lounge will occupy the rooftop at level 27, with views of Central Park and the Billionaire’s Row skyline. On level 2 there will be a double-height resident’s Clubhouse overlooking Broadway and the Conservatory private garden, a Signature Bar also overlooking the garden, a conference room, and private phone booths for work at home. Level 1 will contain a resident’s lounge, the Turf virtual simulation space for golf and games, a Sound Lounge practice and performance room, a Star Lounge and Study space, the Game Den teen lounge, a Central Park Kit Room with park equipment, the Anagram Zoo children’s playroom, and the Fitness Lab.

David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center

Construction has wrapped up at the renovated home of the New York Philharmonic in Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall (formerly Avery Fisher Hall). Officially opened on October 08, the renovation of the Max Abramovitz structure came in on budget and two years ahead of schedule.

Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects are responsible for the design of the public spaces, including the ground floor public hall, a Sidewalk Studio public space at the northeast corner, and second floor atrium.

Design of the theater renovation, renamed the Wu Tsai Theater, was led by Diamond Schmitt Architects. This is the third theater to be built inside the 1962 structure and features a design similar to a proposal by Abramovitz. The stage has moved forward by 25 feet and flexible seating has filled in behind. Seating has been reduced by 500 to a total of 2,200 seats and an increase in the rake of the main seating level to 7.5 degrees allows for a more intimate experience.

Facade installation is ongoing at Adam America Real Estate and Northlink Capital’s 20-story residential tower The Westly on the Upper West Side. Designed by ODA New York, the tower massing features a series of cantilevers at the north facade, extending out over an existing four story structure. When completed, the project will offer 57 units and amenities that include a lounge, teen lounge, fitness center, roof deck with outdoor pool, music practice room, children’s playroom, storage, bike room, central laundry room, and pet washing station.

Construction Update: 212 West 93rd Street

Construction is wrapping up at Landsea Homes and Leyton Properties’ boutique residential condo building 212 West 93rd Street on the Upper West Side. The 14-story, 20-unit condo building is the first ground-up development in Manhattan for Landsea Homes, a California-based homebuilding company. Along with the residential program, the building will be the new home for the Shaare Zedek synagogue at the first two floors and the lower level.

Design of the development is led by ODA New York and features their signature deconstructed facade driven by each home’s influence on the structural form. The facade strategically erodes or expands outward to accommodate private outdoor space for most units.

Tour: Waterline Square

Construction has wrapped up at Waterline Square, the three-tower development on the Upper West Side from GID Development Group. The development's three sites are the last available of the original 5-tower Riverside Center masterplan. Each of the three towers are designed by a different high profile architecture firm and offer rentals at the lower floors and condos starting on floor 20. Sales for the one-to-five-bedroom condo units are ongoing.

Tower One, located at the southwest corner, is designed by Richard Meier Architects. Tower Two, at the northwest corner, is designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. Tower Three, adjacent to the One West End tower, is designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects.

All three towers offer access to the Waterline Club, a combined 100,000 square feet of sports, leisure, and lifestyle amenities designed by the Rockwell Group. Amenities on offer include an indoor tennis court, an indoor skate park, a 30-foot indoor rock climbing wall, a full basketball court, a three-lane lap pool, and studios for art, photography, and recording. Also included in the development is a three acre landscaped park designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects at the center of the site.
