Tour: 543 West 122nd Street - The Vandewater
Southwest corner from Broadway.
Construction is nearing completion at Savanna’s 33-story residential condo tower The Vandewater adjacent to the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Morningside Heights campus. Designed by INC Architecture and Design, the tower takes cues from the classical neo-gothic architecture in the surrounding Morningside Heights neighborhood with it’s concrete and glass facade. The tower is clad in concrete panels with a weathered limestone patina that references the nearby Riverside Church and nearby residential buildings. Oversized in-swing casement windows are integrated into the facade panels.

Brooklyn Bridge Park - Pier 6
Though much recent discussion about Pier 6 has focused on the two proposed residential towers, work has been ongoing to complete the park lands at the western edge of the pier. This past weekend, the remaining 3.5 acres of the pier's landscape opened to the public. Containing large expanses of grassy lawns and flower meadows accessible by meandering paths, this half of the pier provides passive recreation space in contrast to the active sports fields and playgrounds of the easterly half. Pier 6's landscape was designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, the team responsible for the park's other phases. Construction has yet to start on BIG's pavilion that would occupy the western edge of the pier.

Hudson Park & Boulevard
In advance of the 7 train extension expected later this year, a new park that surrounds the station entrances has opened to the public. Designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, this is the first phase of the eventual 4-acre park that will extend from West 33rd to West 39th Streets and is bounded by 10th and 11th Avenues. Phase one extends to West 36th Streets, with the northern second phase yet to be built. Besides ample bench and table seating, there are lawns, fountains, a structure that houses restrooms and a kiosk, and a playground. The subway entrances have been designed by Dattner Architects and will open later this year with the 7 train extension.

Pierhouse
The Pierhouse, a mixed use hotel and condo project on the outskirts of Brooklyn Bridge Park's Pier 1 has reached a topping out milestone for the hotel portion at the northern portion of the site. Starwood will manage the 10 story, 200 key hotel under the 1 Hotel brand. Marvel Architects is in charge of the design with INC Architecture and Design providing interior design services. The hotel will include a 12,000 square foot event space and a farm-to-table restaurant from Seamus Mullen, owner and chef of Tertulia in the West Village and contestant on the Food Network's The Next Iron Chef. Metal and glass will be the dominant material for the exterior façade of the hotel.
Attached to the hotel on the southern portion of the site are two condo buildings, also designed by Marvel Architects, that flank either side of the Squibb Park Bridge (recently closed to pedestrian traffic due to construction). When completed, the condos will bring 108 units, mostly duplexes ranging from one to five bedrooms. Amenities for the condos include: yoga room, multiple gyms, outdoor terrace designed by Michael Van Valkenberg, several lounges, on-site underground parking and bike storage. In contrast to the metal and glass of the hotel, the façade of the condo buildings will be clad in limestone for the park-facing elevation, with anodized aluminum panel on the Furman Street elevation.
Completion of the project is expected in 2015.
