1800 Avenue at Port Imperial

Superstructure is rising at a residential condo development at 1800 Avenue at Port Imperial in Weehawken, NJ. Designed by Handel Architects, the development is broken down into two 8-story buildings, both with massings that step down to the Hudson River waterfront. Superstructure has reached the seventh floor of the north building, while the south building follows behind at the third floor. The project’s facades will feature rounded building corners and cladding of glass and metal panel bands at the horizontal slab conditions. A new pedestrian plaza will be located between the two buildings.

Designed by Handel Architects, the 64-story tower sits at the corner of Carlisle and Washington Streets, on a block near the World Trade Center development. Concrete superstructure continues to rise on the residential tower, which will contain 462 rental units. The podium below features retail at the ground and second floors, with residential amenities located on floors four and five. Curtain wall panels are currently being installed at the podium and have reached to the 5th floor.

Designed by Handel Architects, the 64-story tower sits at the corner of Carlisle and Washington Streets, on a block near the World Trade Center development. Concrete superstructure continues to rise on the residential tower, which will contain 462 rental units. The podium below features retail at the ground and second floors, with residential amenities located on floors four and five. Installation of slab anchors for the curtain wall panels is also underway on the podium floors, indicating that panels will soon be going up as well.

Exterior wall installation is nearing completion at The Durst Organization’s 20 and 30 Halletts Point residential development on the Astoria waterfront in Queens. The two-tower development is the second phase of a larger master plan by Durst that includes seven sites in the Halletts Point section of Astoria. When completed, the project will bring 647 residential units and a waterfront esplanade.

430 Main Street - Riverwalk Heights

Southeast corner.

Facade installation is nearing completion at Related Companies and the Hudson Companies’ Riverwalk 9 residential rental tower on Roosevelt Island. Designed by Handel Architects, the 28-story tower is the last of the nine towers in the Riverwalk masterplan. The facade features brick and window wall with metal panel slab caps.

When completed, the tower will offer 253 residential rental units ranging in size from studios to three-bedrooms. Residents will have access to amenities that include an event space, VR game room, and a fitness center with basketball court. An open space with a dog run, grilling areas, and a lawn will be located between Riverwalk 9 and the eighth tower to the north.

25-01 Queens Plaza North

Superstructure has topped out at Grubb Properties’ residential rental tower at 25-01 Queens Plaza North in Long Island City. Designed by Handel Architects, the 26-story tower sits adjacent to the Queensboro Plaza elevated subway station, which will receive improvements as part of the new development. The project’s massing features an 11-story podium that wraps around a courtyard at the northern boundary of the site, with a rectangular tower volume oriented to the southern boundary. An amenity terrace will be located at the 12th floor transition from podium to tower. The project will be clad in a dark grey brick and punch window with window wall at the east and west tower facades and a portion of the south podium.

Construction Update: National Black Theater and Ray Harlem at 2033 Fifth Avenue

Facade installation is underway at the mixed-use development Ray Harlem at 2033 Fifth Avenue in the East Harlem neighborhood of New York. The development is a joint venture between LXMD (an affiliate of L+M Development Partners) and Ray, a new real estate venture from art patron and philanthropist Dasha Zhukova that combines culturally inspired apartment buildings with publicly accessible art spaces. As the inaugural project of the Ray venture, the development includes a 222-unit residential rental tower sitting atop a podium with 27,000 square feet of space for the National Black Theater, a ground floor community space to be open to the public, and retail. The National Black Theater has been in operation since 1968. Design of the project is led by Handel Architects and Frida Escobedo Architects.

Ray Harlem’s brick facade features a pink-red hue that references the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove in Nigeria. Laying of the brick has begun at the lower floors of the residential tower, to be followed by the installation of large windows.

Construction Update: Journal Squared Tower 3

Facade installation is nearing completion at the third and final tower of KRE Group and National Real Estate Advisors’ Journal Squared, a 2.3 million square feet mixed use development in the Journal Square neighborhood of Jersey City. Designed by Handel Architects and HWKN, the 60-story tower is clad in the same grid of white metal panels and punched windows as the two adjacent towers from earlier phases. Also present is the alternating blue flagging at the windows and the signature vertical glazing strips that rip through the gridded tower facades.

When completed in the first quarter of 2024, the tower will offer 598 rental residences and an additional 18,000 square feet of amenities to the large collection already present in the first two towers.

Construction has wrapped up at The Bellslip, Handel Architect’s third market rate residential tower at the Greenpoint Landing mega development from Brookfield Properties and Park Tower Group. The facade of the 31-story tower features a dark metal and glass window wall with a secondary volume clad in tan brick.

The tower offers 414 residential rental units, with 124 units designated as affordable.
