Construction Update: NYPD 40th Precinct
East facade from St Ann’s Avenue.
Construction is ongoing at the new 40th Precinct Station for the NYPD in the Melrose neighborhood of the Bronx. Designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the massing features stacked boxes, each housing a different program element for the 43,500 square foot precinct. The facade is clad in sandblasted concrete and large rectangular windows at either end of the stacked volumes. Program includes a community meeting room at street level, exercise courtyard with training areas, and the first ever green roof for an NYPD station.

Construction Update: The Eleventh

Superstructure continues to rise at HFZ Capital Group's The Eleventh, a mixed use development at 76 11th Avenue. Designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the development consists of two twisting towers atop an 85 foot podium adjacent to the High Line. The 34-story west tower will rise 400 feet and consist of residential units and supporting amenities, while the 25-story east tower will rise 300 feet and consist of a mixture of residential units on the upper floors and a Six Senses hotel on the lower floors. Currently, the west tower's superstructure has nearly reached the half-way mark, while the east tower has yet to start.

Construction Update: 158 East 126th Street - The Smile

Superstructure is nearly topped out at Blumenfeld Development Group's 11-story rental building at East 126th Street in East Harlem. Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is in charge of the design, which features a 11-story volume fronting East 126th Street and a six-story volume that extends over the center of BDG's existing retail building on the adjacent lot fronting East 125th Street. While the north half nears its full height, the cantilevering south volume has only reached the second floor.
The concave shape of the north façade fronting East 126th Street will be clad in slender windows and blackened stainless steel panels that will reflect the sunlight. Once completed, the rental building will offer 233 apartments in a mix of studios, one-, and two-bedrooms, with twenty percent of the units offered under the affordable housing program.

VIA 57 WEST at 625 West 57th Street
Construction is wrapping up at the Durst Organization's VIA 57 WEST on the Hudson River waterfront. Designed by Bjarke Ingels of BIG, the 470-foot-tall "courtscraper" includes 709 residential rental units and 45,000-square-feet of commercial retail space. Renters began to move in this past spring and now the building's amenities have opened, with the branding of VIA Garden, VIA Social, and VIA Fit.

Designed by Starr Whitehouse, the building's 22,000-square-foot courtyard features native plants and trees, along with seating and an outdoor grilling area.

Grove at Grand Bay
Construction is wrapping up at Grove at Grand Bay, Terra Group's two tower residential development located on a three acre site in the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami. Designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the two towers twist along their vertical axis, allowing for a dynamic range of views of Biscayne Bay and the nearby park. The facade is composed of a window wall system set back from the concrete slab at each floor to create generous terraces with up to 12 feet of depth. A total of 96 residences will be offered between both towers.
